Abstract    Having proper understanding and training in basic research is an invincible tool for a surgeon. The habit of updating oneself with the current research world, reading the most advanced publication could broaden the horizon of a surgeon to develop critical and logical thinking; while simultaneously developing the ability to negotiate and communicate effectively; a crucial characteristic in the making of an excellent surgeon. Currently, basic researches in surgical department focuses on these areas: tumor microenvironment, tumor immunity, inflammation and malignancy. The in-depth understanding of these molecules is inevitable to accelerate the bench-to-bedside translation of these findings into new diagnostic methods or therapeutic modality.With solid background in research, once faced with a clinical question, a surgeon could have acquired enough knowledge from both sides to fully utilize these resources in pursuing a profound research; with full capacity in the implementation and the completion of this project. A research project derived from a clinical question would in turn generate results directly applicable to clinical translation, driving the progress of modern medicine.

摘要： 外科医生结合临床工作开展基础研究，除自身可养成长期学习和阅读的习惯，拓展专业视野，更有利于增强工作的严谨性，提升思维逻辑能力、协调沟通能力，并促进不同学科间的交流合作，推动学科发展。目前，普通外科基础研究方向包括对肿瘤微环境及区域免疫性的探索，涉及众多重要组织器官的非可控性炎症失衡机制和恶性转化机制，肿瘤演进阶段的分子可视化研究等，旨在与既往研究相结合，加速基础研究成果向临床诊疗的转化，以提高现代医学诊断、治疗、疗效评估和预后判定水平。外科医生在足够知识积累的基础上，在临床实践中凝练科学问题，充分利用现有平台进行研究，并与同行进行广泛合作交流，提高项目执行能力，钻研出能够回馈于临床的成果，推动医学进步。
