Abstract Objective To investigate the fertility status of young women with breast cancer. Methods A total of 226 female patients with breast cancer who visited the Breast Surgery Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University from November 2018 to January 2021 were selected as the research subjects. The data of age, marital status, fertility history, fertility plan and fertility preservation of the patients were collected by questionnaire. Results Among the 226 patients, 63.27% (143/226) were under 40 years old without distant metastasis, 143 patients were finally included. Unmarried and childless breast cancer patients had greater desire for fertility. Age, marital status, fertility history and molecular subtypes of breast cancer are the key influencing factors of "whether to discuss fertility preservation with physicians", "whether to worry about medication might affect fertility function", "whether to discuss with physicians about changing drug therapy to protect fertility function", "whether to use fertility preservation measures" (P<0.05). Conclusion Unmarried and childless young breast cancer patients have higher fertility demand. Breast surgeons should increase knowledge on fertility preservation of cancer patients, fully understand the fertility needs of patients as much as possible before anti-cancer treatment, and timely start the multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of fertility preservation of breast cancer patients.
