Medical treatment of postoperative hypoparathyroidism GUAN Hai-xia. Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism, the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University, Shenyang 110001, China
Abstract Postoperative hypoparathyroidism is most commonly seen as a complication of thyroid or parathyroid surgery. It is characterized by a state of hypocalcemia with inappropriately low plasma parathyroid hormone (PTH). The standard treatment of hypoparathyroidism consists of oral calcium and vitamin D supplementation. PTH is a promising option for replacement therapy of postoperative hypoparathyroidism.
