Abstract Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is the most common aneurysm with a mortality rate of 70% to 95% if aneurysm rupture occurs. 90% of detected AAAs are small. Surgical management of small AAAs does not reduce mortality. The medical management of AAAs can not only limit the expansion of small AAAs but also reduce the high incidence of other cardiovascular events in AAA patients. The medical therapy for AAAs consists of smoking cessation, statins, antibiotics,angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin Ⅱ receptor blockers,β-blocker, vitamin E, cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors, anti-platelet drugs, hormonal medications and so on.
