Abstract Surgical resection is mainly radical treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Recurrence after hepatectomy is a major factor induced patients’ death. Non-surgical strategies for recurrent HCC have been applied widely in clinical practice. Local ablation may be a better choice for recurrent small lesion; and as for the multiple lesions, large tumor and poor liver function could not tolerate surgery for recurrent HCC, and transarterial interventional treatment could get the satisfactory effectiveness. The effect of radiotherapy and molecular targeted drugs are uncertain for recurrent HCC. Combined treatment and selecting different therapies according to recurrent tumor characteristics could improve the therapeutic effect significantly.
