Abstract The precise colorectal surgery requires adequate knowledge of the anatomy. An important example is rectal cancer surgery with the established gold standard of total mesorectal excision(TME). In recent 5 years, the complete mesocolic excision(CME) for colon cancer and extralevator abdominoperineal excision(ELAPE) for low rectal cancer are gradually performed. Like TME, both CME and ELAPE are also based on precise anatomy. In colorectal surgery, the mesentery, fascia and space, which name are varied at anatomy and surgery, play important role on standardized colorectal surgery. This article try to describe clearly the abdominal and pelvic mesentery, fascia and space related colorectal surgery and their surgical value.
