Abstract Complication rates associated with thyroid surgery are very high today through analysis of relative references. Thyroid operative major complication rates are 20% or more among patients of thyroid operation and the mortality is less than 0.3%. Complications in some patients have caused important impacts on patients’ social lives. The complications associated with thyroid surgery must be kept in mind so that the surgeons can carefully evaluate the surgical and medical therapeutic options and have more precise surgical indications, and pay attention to prophylaxis of the thyroid operative complications eventually.
