Abstract    Based on the fact that surgical outcome for colon cancer is not promising due to a high recurrence or metastasis rate, and that acute bowel obstruction is often presented in patients with colon cancer, a surgical resection for colon cancer requires strictly stick to the tumor-free principle for cancer surgery to avoid iatrogenic tumor spread during operation, as well as the common principles of general surgery. Some noteworthy issues about colectomy for cancer, including resection area, detection and resection of liver metastasis, prevention and management of peritoneal carcinomatosis, resection and anastomosis for obstructing bowel, and intra-operative chemotherapy should be emphasized on.
