Abstract Clinical pathway is a mode for monopathy quality management, according to which the patients are managed from their admission to discharge from hospital. It described the clinical pathway for rectal cancer surgery used in Changhai Hospital, the Second Military Medical University, and discussed the current issues of clinical pathways for rectal cancer surgery. The implementation of clinical pathways can effectively regulate the perioperative process of rectal cancer, reduce unnecessary errors and delays, and enhance postoperative recovery. As a result, the cost of therapy can be reduced and the quality of care can be improved. Clinical pathways, which can be modified with time and experience to incorporate new advances, should be constantly monitored and revised to ensure they remain better effective.
