Abstract Clinical pathways has been used in clinical practice for 30 years. As a standardized medical management ,it contributes to shorten the length of stay and reduce the cost of medical care on the basis of maintaining and improving the quality of medicine .As for one disease, clinical pathways can be applied to most cases and a few patients would be treated with case management. Severe acute pancreatitis is recognized as a common and serious acute abdomen in general surgery ,whose condition progresses critically and changes complexly. There are great individualized differences during the course of treating this disease. As a result, clinical pathways should be applied rationally according to realities of the patient in the clinical work.
