Abstract    Pulmonary thromboembolism is the most serious complication of deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs, which is an insidious threaten for some patients. Deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs and pulmonary thromboembolism are not uncommon in patients after abdominal surgery. We should pay more attention to preventing deep venous thrombosis and pulmonary thromboembolism. Furthermore, clinicians should be familiar with the clinical manifestations, and comprehensively analyze the medical history and risk factors to make a timely diagnosis. Misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis should be minimized. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the concept of fast track surgery should be adopted and various effective measures and reasonable treatment should be applied to achieve faster and better recovery.
