Abstract Nodular thyroid disease is common in Department of Thyroid Surgery. Certain clinical, radiographic and cytologic features are associated with the requirement of surgical procedures. A clear understanding of the risk factors and the details of a variety of surgical procedures assists in the decision-making process when evaluating a patient with
thyroid nodules, and ultimately determines whether or not a patient is referred for surgery, and which kind of operation range. In addition, the specialization of thyroid surgery and the establishment of training system of specialist can contribute more appropriate management of patients with thyroid nodules, and promote the reduction of surgical complications and the risk of recurrence and reoperation.
