Abstract    Objective    To discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic management of breast cancer during pregnancy and lactation. Methods    The clinical and pathologic data of 5 patients with breast cancer during pregnancy and lactation admitted between 1990 and 2006 at Shanghai Changzheng Hospital were analyzed. Results    Of 5 patients, 3 patients were found during pregnancy and 2 patients were found during lactation. The ages ranged from 23 to 37. With termination of pregnancy ang lactation before operation, all of the patients underwent radical or modified mastectomy. Their postoperative pathology reports were infiltrating ductal carcinoma with axillary lymph node metastasis and positive Cerb-2 expression. ER/PR in 3 patients was negative. TNM stages included 2 patients in stageⅡ, 2 patients in stage Ⅲ and 1 patient in stage Ⅳ. Postoperative chemotherapy was given in all patients. One patient was still alive after 10 years and 4 patients died due to recurrence and metastasis during follow-up. Conclusion    Because of late diagnosis and rapid development, the prognosis of pregnancy-associated breast cancer is poor.
