Abstract Resection of the hepatic caudate lobe is the major therapeutic method for the tumor of caudate lobe, is often technically difficult due to the lobe’s location deep in the hepatic parenchyma and adjacent to the major hepatic vessels. With the continuous development of surgical techniques, caudate lobectomy has also been improved considerably. The major technical principles and difficulties include a rational surgical approach according to the location and size of the tumor and texture of the liver, skilled management and protection of the major vascular structure around. The no-tumor procedure and non-touch technique also play a vital role in caudate lobe resection.
