Abstract    Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a specific clinicopathologic entity characterized by activating mutations of kit and PDFGR-αgenes. The immunohistochemical staining is frequently used to confirm the diagnosis. However, the demonstration of kit and PDFGR-α mutations has been shown to be more reliable in establishing the clinical significance for application of imatinib and sunitinib.
