Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of parenteral nutrition (PN) combined with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) and glutamine (Gln) on surgical critical patients. Methods Thirty surgical critical patients with the APACHE Ⅱ from 10 to 20 were selected. Body compositions (Fat mass,fat-free mass, the ratio of extracellular water and total body water) and serum amino acid patterns were assessed. All data were collected down in the form as mean ± standard deviation and analyzed with SPSS 11.5 for Windows. Results Fat mass decreased and fat-free mass increased, the serum level of amino acids decreased, the serum level of glutamine increased in strengthened group as compared with PN group. Conclusion PN+rhGH+Gln for the strengthened nutritional support in surgical critical patients might be beneficial to the protein synthesis from amino acids by skeletal muscles, and improve the balance of cell’s
liquid. So the strengthened nutritional support is very important for the surgical critical patients, especially for their rehabilitation and prognosis.
