Pattern of lymph node metastasis in gastric stump carcinoma HU Xiang. Department of General Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital, Dalian Medical University, Dalian 116011, China Abstract Lymph node metastasis is a crucial factor influencing the prognosis of gastric stump carcinoma. The overall 5-year survival rates are up to 50% for curative resection cases of gastric stump carcinoma. Incidence of lymph node metastasis for gastric stump carcinoma is N0 76%, N1 18%, N2 18%, N3 6%. Except for the metastasis in N1 regional lymph nodes around the stomach, the lymph nodes around the area of splenic hilum, splenic artery, the radix of jejunal mesentery, abdominal aorta and infradiaphragm show high metastatic incidence. Mastering the particular lymph flow and pattern in lymph node metastasis, appropriate lymphadenectomy will contribute to improve the prognosis of gastric stump carcinoma.
