Selection and evaluation of treatment methods for benign pancreatic head mass SUN Bei, KONG Rui. Department of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital, Harbin Medical University, Harbin150001, China. Corresponding author: KONG Rui, E-mail:kongrui-001@163.com Abstract Pancreatic head benign mass can generally be divided into tumor and non-tumor lesion. There are some differences in treatment methods between two kinds of masses due to their different outcome and prognosis. Preoperative assessment of resectability should be emphasized, and CT and MRI are the important tool for assessment of resectability. For the resectable benign pancreatic head lesion, the ultimate purpose of treatment should be to resect the mass thoroughly. While for the unresectable mass, the main therapeutic task is to relieve the main symptoms and prevent complications caused by itself. The specific operation procedure should be selected through comprehensive analysis, basing on the local conditions of lesions and patients’ systemic conditions, the extent of understanding by patients and their relatives about the disease, expert consultation, as well as proficiency of surgeons in the procedure to be adopted.
