Abstract

Electrical impedance scanning in estimating risk for development of breast cancer in young women:a prospective studyWANG Ting*,DOU Kefeng,Wang Ling,et al.*Third Department of General Surgery ,Xijing Hospital, the Fourth Military Medical University,Xi’an 710032,China Corresponding author:DOU Kefeng,Email:kefengdou100@yahoo.com.cn AbstractObjectiveTo evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of electrical impedance scanning (EIS) in identifying breast cancer for young women,to calculate relative risk, and to determine whether the more accurate imaging method should be used in early breast cancer detection for young women based on costeffective ratio. MethodsA prospective clinical study was done in young women aged 45 years and under from 6 hospitals between June 2005 and June 2007. The young women (583 cases) scheduled for mammary biopsy underwent EIS. EIS results were compared with final histopathology results. Study end points included sensitivity and specificity of EIS as well as relative probability of breast cancer of positive patients detected by EIS. ResultsOf 583 cases,143 cases were diagnosed as breast cancer. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of EIS were 867%,729%,763%,512% and 941% respectively. The relative possibility of breast cancer in positive young women detected by EIS were 867.ConclusionEIS is likely to become a main approach to screen early breast cancer in young women.
