Abstract    Current perioperative standardized management procedures should aim at improving patient safety. New theory such as damage control surgery and fast tract surgery have profound effect on current surgical practice. One of important task in the perioperative management is the prevention of surgical site infection. The primary quality performance measures include prophylactic antibiotics given within the 60-minute interval immediately preceding the surgical skin incision，appropriate prophylactic antibiotic for the scheduled procedure and the prophylactic antibiotic should be discontinued within 24 hours of the end of the procedure. Perioperative team building and effective communication could prevent errors in perioperative period. Universal Protocol for the prevention of wrong site，wrong-patient，and wrong-procedure surgery includes the preprocedural time-out and accreditation requirements.
