Abstract: Different degrees of condylar displacement are common after orthognathic surgery. Postoperative displacement may be caused by inadequate immobilization of the repositioned jaws，condylar surface resorption and the lack of passive seating of the condyles within the mandibular fossa during fixation. These problems may result in a lot of psychological burden and difficulty for patients during the recovery periods and difficulty in a second treatment，and it also affect the patient′s compliance. Therefore，the treatment and prevention of condylar displacement after orthognathic surgery is one of the focuses for scholars in recent years. This article reviews the research progress in the etiology，treatment and prevention of condylar displacement after orthognathic surgery.
