Abstract: Objective    To evaluate the effect of orthodontic surgery on oral health-related quality of life of patients with dentomaxillofacial deformities,so as to provide information for clinical program development and doctor-patient communication. Methods    Thirty-five patients with dentomaxillofacial deformities who underwent orthognathic surgery in Stomatology Hospital of China Medical University from June to December of 2019 were included in this study. All patients were investigated before and after surgery by orthognathic quality of life questionnaire. One hundred healthy people were included as the control group. Results    Patients′scores in all fields after surgery were significantly lower than those before surgery(P < 0.001),and the scores before surgery were all higher than those in control group(P < 0.001). Scores in dentomaxillofacial aesthetic perception and social function after surgery were significantly higher than those in control group(P < 0.05). Conclusion Patients with dentomaxillofacial deformities have a poorer oral health-related quality of life than normal population. There is a significant improvement in many aspects of life after orthognathic surgery;however, the quality of life in dentomaxillofacial aesthetic perception and social function after surgery is still poorer than that of normal people.
