Abstract: The temporomandibular joint is located in the temporomandibular joint region at the lateral skull base，adjacent to the external auditory canal，and performs functions such as opening and closing the mouth，chewing，and pronunciation. Tumors and tumor-like diseases involving the temporomandibular joint and skull base are relatively rare and the location is deep. Some invasive diseases（such as synovial chondroma，temporal bone giant cell tumor，tenosynovial giant cell tumor，etc.）may invade the middle cranial fossa and middle ear，which are difficult to diagnose and treat. This article reviewed the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and tumor-like diseases involving the temporomandibular joint and skull base，and provided a theoretical basis for clinical doctors in the diagnosis and treatment of these kinds of diseases.
