Abstract    The transverse colon has unique embryological and anatomical characteristics. For the treatment of transverse colon cancer，transverse colectomy or left hemicolectomy or right hemicolectomy can be performed. The scope of lymph node dissection required for tumors in different locations is completely different. Extended right hemicolectomy and transverse colectomy can achieve similar prognosis for mid-transverse colon cancer, and the incidence of postoperative complications related to expanded right hemicolectomy is lower. However, the need for infrapyloric lymph node dissection is controversial. For splenic flexure colon cancer without clear preoperative assessment of lymph node metastasis around the gastric omentum vessels, the lower margin of the pancreas，and around the spleen, routine regional dissection is not necessary in laparoscopic surgery. Expanded right hemicolectomy is the standard surgical procedure for the treatment of hepatic flexure colon cancer, but there is controversy over whether infrapyloric lymph node dissection is a routine procedure. In the future, more highly standardized research is needed to better evaluate the clinical relevance of laparoscopic lymph node dissection in transverse colon cancer.
