Abstract    In recent years，great progress has been made in the therapeutic concepts，methods and strategies of acute pancreatitis (AP)，which also has a profound impact on many aspects of its diagnosis and treatment. Based on this，at the end of 2020，the Chinese Pancreatic Surgery Association took the lead to update and revised the “Guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis in China(2021)” on the basis of the “Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of severe acute pancreatitis (2007)” and the “Guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of acute pancreatitis (2014)”. The revised guideline adopts the problem-oriented expression，focusing on the diagnosis and classification criteria of AP，fluid therapy，analgesia and nutritional support in early phase of AP，and treatment approach of infectious complications in late phase. Meanwhile，the follow-up strategy after AP is proposed. This paper explains the background of the update of the key contents of the new guideline，and interprets the evidence supporting the update.
