Abstract: Resin composite restorative materials have been available to the dental profession for more than two decades. These materials are suitable for use both in anterior and posterior teeth. Resin composites have been developed specially for use in posterior teeth with satisfactory clinical trial results. Many disadvantages of amalgam can be overcome by resin composite. As a consequence, posterior resin composite restorations have increased in popularity and are well-accepted by patients and dentists. However, directly-placed posterior composite restorations are still considered to have a number of limitations, such as marginal defects, occlusal wear, cuspal distortion and post-operative sensitivity. Therefore, an improved technique:-resin composite inlay is applied clinically to minimize the above limitations. A resin composite inlay is a restoration which is cemented into a preparation cavity as a solid mass. This solid mass has been fabricated from resin composite with a form established by an indirect procedure. In this paper, update information of resin composite indirect inlay will be given, including its clinical application, advantages and disadvantages as well as problems encountered.
