Abstract: Objective    To evaluate the incidence rate and influencing factors of sharp instrument injury in dental medical staff. Methods    Literatures on sharp instrument injuries in stomatology were retrieved in CNKI,Wanfang Database,VIP database,PubMed,Cochrane Library,Embase,Scopus and Web of Science database from January 2000 to January 2022. Analyze the incidence of sharp instrument injury among dental medical staff by Meta-analysis,and analyze the influence of different factors on sharp instrument injury among dental medical staff by descriptive analysis. Results    Totally 9 cross-sectional studies were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the incidence of sharp instrument injury in dental medical staff within one year of employment was 57%(RD = 0.57,95%CI:0.31 - 0.83,P < 0.001). In the whole career, the incidence of sharp injury was 56%(RD = 0.56,95%CI:0.45 - 0.67,P < 0.001). The age, employment years, working place, clinical work experience, the number of patients, occupational protection(including sharp injury protection behavior and sharps injury related knowledge),stress, fatigue, and inattention of dental medical staff could be the influencing factors of the incidence of sharp instrument injury. Conclusion    The incidence of sharp instrument injury in dental medical staff is high and is affected by many factors. Corresponding intervention measures can be formulated according to the influencing factors to reduce the incidence of sharp instrument injury in stomatology.
