Abstract    Objective    To investigate the role of Virtual Reality(VR)technology in improving preoperative patients' anxiety states. Methods    One hundred patients were prospectively enrolled in the general surgery department of Ruijin Hospital,Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine from 2020-05-04—2020-07-10. They were 1:1 randomly divided into a VR experience group(50 patients)and a conventional preoperative conversation group(50 patients). After the regular preoperative conversation, the VR experience group patients watched the first-person VR panoramic video of the preoperative preparation process and the anesthesia recovery process in the operating room, while the traditional conversation group only got preoperative conversations. Both groups of patients completed the Self-Rating Anxiety Inventory(SAS)to assess their preoperative anxiety level. Results    The SAS scores of patients in the VR experience group were significantly lower than those in the traditional conversation group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion    The first-person view panoramic videos using VR technology can help patients understand the preoperative preparation process and anesthesia recovery process after entering the operating room, which can effectively relieve the preoperative anxiety state of patients and has broad application prospects in clinical work.
