Abstract: Gummy smile and deep overbite of anterior teeth are often one of the main reasons for patients with uncoordinated vertical relationship between upper and lower dental arches. For patients with severe vertical maxillary excess，orthodontists often improve their profile with orthognathic surgery. However，for patients with mild deep overbite，orthodontists usually achieve treatment objective using maxillary incisor intrusion with temporary anchorage devices（TAD）. The present article reviewed the advances in the use of TAD in maxillary incisor intrusion，including therapeutic effect，influencing factors and dynamic analysis.
