Abstract    Laparoscopy has become the mainstream surgical approach for gastric cancer. The advanced gastric cancer (AGC) brings poor long-term survival, limited therapeutic target and obvious individualized characteristics. It is still controversial whether the application of laparoscopy is safe and feasible for AGC or not. According to the individualized status of AGC, it is suggested to evaluate surgical modalities, appropriate timing, and optimal strategies by multidisciplinary discussion on the basis of fully estimating the local invasion of tumor, distant organ and non-regional lymph node metastasis. Meanwhile, surgeons also should focus on the laparoscopic conversion surgery and laparoscopic palliative surgery so as to maximize the advantages of laparoscopy in minimally invasive diagnosis, accelerating postoperative recovery, improving quality of life etc., which ultimately improve the overall treatment effect of AGC.
