Abstract    Surgery is the optimal treatment for differentiated thyroid cancer （DTC） with cervical lymph node metastasis.With knowing more about DTC and neck dissection，it appears increasingly important to protect the original function during the neck dissection for DTC to improve the quality of life. Neck dissection for DTC may cause the injury of nerve，including mandibular margin，accessory nerve，vagus nerve，cervical sympathetic nerve，cervical plexus and brachial plexus. Correct anatomical knowledge，extensive surgical experience and skillful surgical technique are the keys to prevent the nerve injury in the neck dissection of DTC.
