Abstract:

Summary：An orthopedic jaw position is the jaw position that condylar lies in comfortably，repeatably on which re-establishment of intercuspided occlusion depends. Furthermore，it is physiologically functional position of jaw movement which should be restored after prosthesdontic or orthodontic treatment has accomplished. Focusing on vertical relationship and condylar position，controversy ideas about orthopedic jaw position be studied and summarized in this article from the perspective of clinical practice. It is concluded that oral orthopedic jaw position is not a single point but an acceptable range and it is reasonable to say that orthopedic jaw position is established correctly when harmonious jaw position and intercuspal occlusion relationship are formed and occlusion function is performed well in  a physiological position.
