Abstract:

Objective    To study the properties of the agar/alginate combination impression material impregnated with 0.525% NaClO,so as to provide theoretical and experimental basis for clinical application. Methods    NaClO was added into the agar/alginate combination impression material in the proportion of 0.525% .The antibacterial ratios were tested using a method according to the Chinese and Japanese standards for testing antibacterial efficacy of antibacterial materials. Bacteria strains used included Staphylococcus aures ATCC 6538 and Escherichia coli ATCC25922.The physical properties of the experimental self-disinfecting alginate impression material were also evaluated. Results    The antibacterial ratios of the agar/alginate combination impression material impregnated with antimicrobial agent against two tested bacteria strains were all beyond 99%. The impregnation of the antibacterial agent had no significant effect on the main physical properties of the alginate impression material (P > 0.05).Conclusion    The impregnation of 0.525% NaClO can offer agar/alginate combination impression material with strong antibacterial activities against two tested bacteria strains. The compressive strength and dimensional accuracy of the experimental self-disinfecting agar/alginate combination impression material can meet the requirements of clinical application.
