Abstract:

Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical effects of the improved one-step sliding method of straight wire appliance to close the extraction spaces. Methods Twenty cases (totally 80 quadrants) of Angle ClassⅠmalocclusion and dental veolar bimaxillary protrusion were selected from Department of Stomatology,Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital from July 2006 to January 2008. Both sides in each case ( 4 quadrants ) were divided into two groups randomly, and there were respectively 40 quadrants in experimental group and control group. In experimental group, extraction spaces were closed by cheek Ni-Ti spring plus lingua draught. In control group, spaces were simply closed by cheek Ni-Ti spring draught. Results Space-closing speed in experimental group (0.98±0.03) mm/month was significantly faster than that in control group (0.79±0.03) mm/month (P < 0.01). No significant differences of length of canine root and height of alveolar bone were found in two groups. Conclusion The improved one-step sliding method of straight wire appliance to close the extraction spaces has the advantages of fast speed, low expense and satisfactory clinical effect, and it is worth being popularized.
