Abstract:

Class Ⅲ malocclusion is a developmental anomaly affected by both

genetical and environmental factors. An accurate diagnosis of this malocclusion and a

precise assessment of its severity are fundamental pathway leading to a successful treatment. It is also critical to choose the optimal timing of the treatment if orthopedic approach is adopted and the sites of extraction if reduction of arch length becomes necessary. A custom designing of the orthodontic/orthopedic force loading according to the malocclusion nature （dental， functional， skeletal）， the patient's age （pre-adolescent， adolescent， adulthood） and the treatment modality （orthodontic， orthopedic， orthognathic） plays a pivotal role in achieving an efficient completion of a class Ⅲ case. This paper aims to elaborate on the differential diagnosis of class Ⅲ sub-types， the optional modalities of corrective approaches.
