Abstract: Objective To explore an effective approach to orthodontic treatment for patients with too small occlusal space caused by long period of posterior tooth loss and overeruption of the opposed tooth. Methods Eight cases were treated with orthodontic method to intrude the opposed overeruption tooth，adjust the occlusal relations and restore normal occlusal distance.After accomplishment of these processes，they were delt with by prosthetic treatment. Results All cases were cured effectively by orthodontically increasing the occlusal space，correcting the malocclusal relation. As a result，all cases achieved satisfactory therapic results. Conclusion The combination of orthodontics with prosthodontics can be applied successfully to cases with too small posterior tooth space after posterior tooth loss.
