Abstract: Summary：Class Ⅱ malocclusion manifests incoordination of maxilla and mandible as different position， morphology and size in clinic. Functional appliance is effective in Class Ⅱ malocclusion treatment. However， relapse after the treatment is inevitable. Therefore， it is extraordinary needed in practice to make it clear whether there is an association between relapse and different characteristics of Class Ⅱ malocclusion in order to further understand the indication of functional appliance for Class Ⅱ patients. This review is to clarify the characteristics of Class Ⅱ malocclusion， the relationship between Class Ⅱ malocclusion and temporomandibular joint，and treatment with functional appliance for Class Ⅱ malocclusion with different characteristics，and to provide references for clinical use.
