Abstract:

Objective To investigate the effect of 2 carbonated beverages on the marginal microleakage of porcelain fused to metal crown by immersion test. Methods From July 2017 to August 2017,15 patients(24 teeth)with premolar extraction for orthodontic treatment were selected from the Outpatient Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Fujian Medical University. The 24 extracted human premolars were preserved in chloramine T solution and Co-Cr based porcelain-fused-to-metal(PFM)crowns were cemented with by 3M luting2 cements. They were separated into 3 groups:control,Cola and Sprite. The premolars in control group were immersed in artificial saliva, those in the Cola group were soaked in Coca-Cola®,and those in the Sprite group were immersed in Sprite®. The Cola group and the Sprite group were soaked in the carbonated beverage for 3 times a day, once for 15 minutes, and soaked in artificial saliva for the rest of the time. Microleakage at the dentin-adhesive and adhesive-crown interfaces was determined using methylene blue. Then, the specimens were cut in the buccolingual and mesiodistal direction, and then tested for bond microleakage values using microscope. Results The statistical analysis of several independent samples of the experiment results showed that the degree of microleakage in the Cola group was greater than that of the Sprite group and the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05). The microleakage in Sprite group is greater than that in control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05). Conclusion Microleakage is visible after the bonding interface experiment in each group, and the degree of microleakage in the Cola group is greater than that of the Sprite group and the control group. It is suggested that Coca-Cola® has a strong effect on marginal microleakage of PFM crown compared with Sprite®.
