Abstract: With the development of minimally invasive concept，the function preservation and the prevention of complications has drawn increasing attention from oral surgeons. When the impacted mandibular tooth is accompanied by dentigerous cyst，enucleation of the cyst or tooth extraction may cause temporary or permanent damage to the inferior alveolar nerve，leading to paresthesia of the lower lip，which seriously affects the quality of patients′ lives. In 1980s，coronectomy was introduced into the field of oral surgery. There have been a lot of researches on its safety，practicality，and complication rate. This article makes an introduction to coronectomy for impacted tooth，including indications and contraindications，surgical procedures and complications.
