Abstract:

In root canal treatment，the ultimate aim of root canal obturation is to adequately fill the root canal system in order to prevent oral pathogens from colonizing and re-infecting the root and periapical tissues. Therefore，apical sealing ability of root canal fillings is the important factor that determines the success or failure of root canal treatment. Although there are various methodologies reported in the current literature for assessing apical sealability，they are not standardized，which make it difficult to compare the results. In this review，we have introduced the common methods for assessing apical sealability and critically analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of various methodologies.
