Perinatal genitourinary infections and preterm birth.
Abstract: Genitourinary infections are one of the most important factors to induce preterm birth. The risk of preterm delivery has been increased by any kind of genitourinary tract infection. The mechanisms of preterm birth have not been fully elucidated yet. Some evidences indicate that imbalance of immune homeostasis may play an important role, and prostaglandin may also increase the risk of preterm birth. What's more, the gene polymorphism can make something even clear. There are many scholars who have different opinions on the importances of early screening of perinatal genitourinary infections. However, early screening of urinary and reproductive tract infections to prevent premature is necessary for people at a high risk for preterm birth.
