More attention should be paid to menopause related osteoporosis. YU Qi
Abstract:Although the osteoporotic process is asymptomatic,it is already too late to be treated if the symptoms as fracture had been appeared. This is one of the main reasons that most of the Chinese women are in poor health condition in their old age. Menopause related hormone therapy (MHT) in early menopause (therapeutic window),enough calcium and vitamin D supplementation and adequate life style are key methods for the prevention of the osteoporosis. Fracture, the most serious consequence of osteoporosis, may occur only after 65 years old,so it is very hard for a woman in her early menopause stage to consider. Thus, setting up the climacteric clinic in hospitals as well as in community, and doing continue medical education (CME) for doctors, patients education in hospitals and population education in the media are extremely important.
