Abstract: The new international classification of periodontal and peri-implant disease published in 2018 has made many changes compared with the previous classification system of periodontal disease in 1999. The "aggressive periodontitis" and "chronic periodontitis" in the old system are grouped under a single category（"periodontitis"）and are further described based on a multidimensional staging and grading system. Currently this new classification has been introduced into clinical practice，but many dentists are not familiar with it. Stage Ⅱ periodontitis is classified as moderate periodontitis. At this stage，the inflammation has caused certain damage to the periodontal tissue. Early diagnosis and intervention can effectively prevent the further development of inflammation and obtain a good prognosis. This article summarized some views on the diagnosis and treatment of stage Ⅱ periodontitis based on domestic and foreign literature as well as the author′s experience.
